Direct flights between Pakistan and Azerbaijan have grown quickly, which is one reason Baku has become such a popular destination for Pakistani travellers. This guide explains which routes exist, which airlines fly them, how long the journey takes and how travellers from Karachi and other cities connect. It does not quote fares: ticket prices change daily with season, demand and how early you book, so always compare on the day.

Airline schedules also change. The information below reflects published reports and schedules available in October 2026. Always confirm the current schedule directly with the airline before booking.

Direct flights from Pakistan to Baku

All direct flights from Pakistan land at Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD), the only commercial airport serving Baku.

In May 2026, Azerbaijan's ambassador to Pakistan reported that direct weekly flights between the two countries had reached ten: six by Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), two by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and two by Airblue, after Airblue launched its Lahore–Baku service on 2 May 2026 (Caliber.Az, CentralAsia+Aero).

Lahore to Baku (LHE–GYD)

Lahore has the most choice. Three airlines operate direct:

  • Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), the national carrier of Azerbaijan
  • Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), which launched Lahore–Baku in April 2025
  • Airblue, which launched Lahore–Baku in May 2026

Published schedules show a direct flight time of roughly three and three-quarter to four and a quarter hours, depending on the airline and direction. AZAL's Lahore departures have typically been early-morning, arriving in Baku around breakfast time, while PIA's have operated around midday.

Islamabad to Baku (ISB–GYD)

Azerbaijan Airlines operates direct flights between Islamabad and Baku. Published schedules show a flight time of about three and a half hours, with departures in the early hours of the morning. This is the most convenient option for travellers from Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar and northern Pakistan.

Karachi to Baku

As of October 2026, there is no direct scheduled flight between Karachi and Baku. Karachi travellers usually choose between:

  1. A domestic connection to Lahore or Islamabad, then a direct flight to Baku.
  2. A one-stop international itinerary through a hub such as Dubai, Sharjah, Doha or Istanbul, on carriers that serve both Karachi and Baku.

Compare total journey time, not just the price. A short domestic hop plus a direct flight is often quicker than a long layover in the Gulf.

Other Pakistani cities

From Multan, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Quetta and other cities, travellers typically connect via Lahore, Islamabad or a Gulf hub. Check whether your ticket is on a single booking, so that a delay on the first flight is the airline's responsibility.

Time difference and arrival

Baku is on Azerbaijan Time (UTC+4), one hour behind Pakistan Standard Time. An early-morning departure from Lahore or Islamabad therefore lands in Baku in the early morning, local time. Plan your hotel check-in accordingly: many hotels allow early check-in only on request.

From the airport to the city centre you can take a taxi, a ride-hailing app or the airport express bus. Keep some manat or a card ready; see our currency exchange guide.

Visa before you fly

Airlines will check that you have a valid visa before boarding, because Pakistani passport holders must hold an Azerbaijan visa before travel. There is no visa on arrival. For tourism and short visits, apply for the official e-visa:

  • Standard e-visa: issued within 3 working days
  • Urgent e-visa: issued within 3 hours, including holidays, at a higher state fee
  • Single entry, valid 90 days, stay up to 30 days
  • Passport valid at least 3 months beyond the e-visa's expiry

These conditions are published on the official e-visa portal. Print your e-visa and carry it with your passport; the airline and border officers will ask for it. Read our step-by-step Azerbaijan e-visa guide for Pakistanis.

Booking tips for Pakistan to Baku flights

Book flights and visa in the right order

Many travellers book a refundable or changeable fare, then apply for the e-visa, then confirm the rest of the trip. Because the e-visa is tied to your arrival date, make sure the date you enter matches your flight.

Compare direct vs one-stop

Direct flights save time and stress, especially with children or elderly parents. One-stop itineraries via the Gulf or Istanbul can sometimes offer different baggage allowances or timings.

Check baggage rules

Allowances differ between airlines and fare types. If you plan to bring back carpets, sweets or shopping, check the checked-baggage allowance before you book.

Watch peak seasons

Summer holidays, Eid holidays and long weekends are busy on the route. Booking early usually gives more choice of dates.

Name exactly as in passport

Your ticket name must match your passport exactly, just like your e-visa. A spelling mismatch between ticket, visa and passport causes problems at check-in.

Book through trusted channels

Buy tickets from the airline's own website, office or a known travel agent, and make sure you receive an e-ticket number you can verify on the airline's site. Be cautious of social media offers that ask for full payment by bank transfer without a ticket number. If something sounds too good to be true, check with the airline first.

Keep documents ready for check-in

- Passport valid three months beyond the e-visa's expiry - Printed e-visa - Return or onward ticket - Hotel booking or host's address - Travel insurance

Which departure city should you choose?

If you live in Punjab, Lahore usually offers the most departures, with three airlines on the route. If you live in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa or Azad Kashmir, the Islamabad direct flight saves a long road journey. Travellers from Sindh and Balochistan should weigh the cost and time of reaching Lahore or Islamabad against a one-stop itinerary from Karachi. A useful habit is to price the whole journey, including domestic flights, hotel nights and airport transfers, rather than the international ticket alone.

Overnight departures are common on the route. They save a hotel night but can be tiring, especially with children. If you arrive in Baku in the early morning, plan an easy first day: a late breakfast, a nap and a gentle walk on the Boulevard in the evening, rather than a full sightseeing programme.

Hand luggage essentials for the flight

  • Passport and printed e-visa, kept together
  • Printed or saved copies of your hotel booking and return ticket
  • A pen for any arrival paperwork
  • A light jacket, as cabins and Baku mornings can be cool
  • Any regular medicines, with prescriptions
  • A charged phone and power bank; Azerbaijan uses European-style two-pin sockets

Travelling with children or elderly parents

Request seats together at booking and, for infants, ask the airline about bassinets. Elderly travellers can request wheelchair assistance through the airline in advance; it is usually arranged at both Pakistani and Baku airports. Keep snacks and water for the early-morning arrival, when cafés may still be quiet.

If your flight is delayed or cancelled

Schedules on growing routes can change, so stay in touch with your airline. Give the airline a working mobile number and email address at booking, and check flight status on the day of departure. If a direct flight is cancelled, ask the airline about rebooking on its next service or an alternative routing. If your new arrival date differs from the date on your e-visa application, check that it still falls within the e-visa's validity period before you fly. Travel insurance with delay and missed-connection cover is worth considering, especially for one-stop itineraries from Karachi.

What to expect on arrival in Baku

At Heydar Aliyev International Airport, you present your passport and printed e-visa at immigration. Have your hotel address and return ticket handy in case you are asked. After collecting your bags, you can buy a local SIM card, exchange a small amount of money and head into the city.

If you stay in Azerbaijan for more than 15 days, your place of stay must be registered with the State Migration Service. Hotels usually do this for their guests.
